SPRINGFIELD – Rev. Jeremy Wood, pastor of First Congregational Church of Bunker Hill, provided the opening prayer for the Illinois State Senate on Tuesday, May 12.

SPRINGFIELD— The Coffeen Power Station sits barely six miles away from the Deer Run coal mine outside Hillsboro. In contrast, the power plant is more than 900 miles away from coal mines in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin.
Under current state rules, however, coal mined in Hillsboro can’t be burned in the Coffeen plant so Hillsboro coal gets shipped out of the state and the plant ships in coal from western states like Wyoming.
SPRINGFIELD –Students from Bunker Hill High School and Jefferson Middle School presented their work STEM technology to state lawmakers during the 2015 Capitol Tech Day on Thursday. The students demonstrated how this technology helps develop skills for college and careers.
SPRINGFIELD—The Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies presented Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) the 2015 Vince Demuzio Legislator of the Year Award for his work in the Senate addressing rural poverty.
“This is truly an honor and I’m incredibly humbled. Vince was a mentor and the reason I went into public service. I hope I can live up to his example,” Manar said.
