SPRINGFIELD – The Senate State Government and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Development is holding a hearing Monday, March 18 in Decatur to discuss a proposal sponsored by State Senator Andy Manar (D–Bunker Hill) aimed at restructuring the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity – the lead state agency responsible for economic development in the state. The purpose of the hearing is to gather information regarding the state’s role in economic development; more specifically, how the state can become more responsive to the needs of the business community and improve its methods for attracting new businesses.
