GroupTAYLORVILLE – Wanda Bottoms walked into Christian County Senior Citizens on Wednesday morning empty handed, but she walked out with answers and a bag of helpful information.

She was looking for help with her health insurance.

“Today was good. It was helpful. Someone was able to answer some questions and is going to call back to answer more,” Bottoms said.

Bottoms and other Taylorville seniors received free health screenings and information for state and local programs during a senior fair hosted by State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) and Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur).

“Sometimes it can be complicated to navigate all the different state and local programs available for seniors. Today was an opportunity to bring all of these resources together in one convenient location,” Manar said.

“Just like I want good care for my 94 year old mother, I want all seniors in our area to have a helping hand to get what they need," Scherer said. "I hope to meet any seniors in the area with questions at upcoming senior fairs."

The fair brought service providers and senior programs together to provide information and health screenings for area seniors. Manar and Scherer are hosting similar fairs across their districts throughout September.
