DECATUR – Norma Miller walked into the Decatur Macon County Senior Center on Wednesday morning empty handed, but she walked out with answers and a bag of helpful information.
She spoke to representatives from public and private care providers and services.
“It was very nice and helpful. I talked to Veterans’ Affairs and the county health department. They were all helpful,” Miller said.
Miller and other Decatur seniors received free health screenings and information for state and local programs during a senior fair hosted by State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) and Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur).
“There are a lot of programs and organizations that help seniors, and navigating all of them can sometimes be complicated. We wanted to give seniors a streamlined opportunity to ask questions, get resources and access free health screenings,” Manar said.
“Just like I want good care for my 94-year-old mother, I want all seniors in our area to have a helping hand to get what they need," Scherer said. "I hope to meet any seniors in the area with questions at upcoming senior fairs."
The fair brought service providers and senior programs together to provide information and health screenings for area seniors. Manar and Scherer are hosting similar fairs across their districts throughout September.
