“This was wonderful. I came in for the cholesterol check since I haven’t had one in while, and I did a skin cancer screening they had too,” Tuetken said.
Teutken also found out she had more than $100 of unclaimed assets with the state by checking with the Illinois Treasurer’s I-Cash program.
“That was a big bonus, I never would have known,” Tuetken said.
Tuetken and other Macoupin County seniors received free health screenings and information for state and local programs during a senior fair hosted by State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill).
Manar hosted the fair to give seniors a centralized, streamlined opportunity to ask questions, get resources and access free health screenings.
The Macoupin County Health Department provided cholesterol, skin cancer and diabetes screenings for residents. The department along with other organizations and programs also shared information on services available to seniors.
Seniors had the opportunity to renew or update their driver’s licenses and state ID cards with the Secretary of State’s office. The offices’ mobile unit provided all the services of a standard DMV including vision and behind-the-wheel testing.
This is the third year Manar has hosted the fair and is hosting similar fairs throughout the district.
