A group of young professional leaders from Vietnam visited the Illinois Capitol Monday to discuss government and the role of state elected officials with Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) and other state lawmakers.
The group is visiting Illinois as part of an exchange program through the American Council of Young Political Leaders, an organization that aims to introduce next-generation leaders to governance, politics, policy-making, history and cultures around the world. ACYPL also creates opportunities for open, respectful dialogue among leaders of all backgrounds.
The group’s stops in Springfield included a guided tour of the Illinois Capitol and a panel discussion with Manar and two Springfield-area state representatives, Tim Butler and Sara Wojcicki-Jimenez, Monday morning.
Manar answered questions about the structure of local, state and federal government in the United States, as well as about economic development, trade, Illinois’ regional strengths, delivery of services to taxpayers and elections.
