Manar Wolf Ridge Vote Book 350BUNKER HILL – Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) visited third-graders at Wolf Ridge Elementary School in Bunker Hill on Oct. 21 for his annual reading of Eileen Christelow’s book, “Vote!”

Manar’s message to the students in Ms. Gockel’s class: participate in democracy, learn about our government, children from small towns can grow up to do great things, and wealth is not a requirement to be an elected official.

Using a fictional mayoral campaign as an example, Christelow’s book offers children an introduction to such concepts as political parties, voter registration, campaigns, rallies, debates, Election Day and recounts.

Manar Rull Class Wolf Ridge 350In addition, Manar on Tuesday, Oct. 25, visited with second-graders in Ms. Rull’s class at Wolf Ridge Elementary to talk about voting, citizenship and his experience serving as a state senator since 2013.

Manar is an advocate for overhauling Illinois’ nearly 20-year-old school funding formula, which fails to fairly account for the needs of school districts with shrinking property tax bases, higher levels of poverty and students with special learning needs. He regularly visits schools in the 48th Senate District he represents in Springfield.
