Event part of Manar’s Capitol on your Corner program
SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Andy Manar (D–Bunker Hill) is hosting a discussion on education funding and other state issues on October 9 in Decatur as part of his “Capitol on your Corner” program.
The event is from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm October 9 at the Garfield Park at 1055 W Grand Ave in Decatur. Food and beverages will be provided.
Manar regularly hosts “Capitol on your Corner” events in communities across the 48th District to meet with constituents and answer questions about state government. But with concern over budget cuts to schools and Manar’s advisory committee currently reviewing school financing inequities, Manar anticipates the discussion at the October 9 event will focus on public education funding in Illinois.
“As the parent of three children in a small, downstate school district, I understand Decatur parents’ frustrations with funding cuts,” said Manar. “Funding public education is one of the most important responsibilities of state government, and we can do much better.”
Manar led the effort in the spring legislative session to create the Senate Advisory Committee on Education Funding (SR0431). The committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of how K-12 education is funded in Illinois and make recommendations for improvement.
Manar is also encouraging people to continue signing his online petition at www.SenatorAndyManar.com/FundingReform to show support for reforming education funding in Illinois.
