Manar Grant Announcement Royal LakesrROYAL LAKES – The Village of Royal Lakes will now have the necessary funds to repair crumbling roads and replace dated culverts and sewage pumps thanks to a $70,000 state grant from the Illinois Jobs Now! program secured with help from State Senator Andy Manar (D–Bunker Hill).

“These investments will benefit both businesses and residents in Royal Lakes by providing safer roads and improved water flow to prevent erosion,” Manar said. “Meeting this kind of need – improving our crumbling infrastructure – is exactly the intended purpose for these types of grants.”

“The Village of Royal Lakes is grateful to Senator Manar and all those involved for this assistance,” Mayor Selone Williams said. “The safety of our roads has been a major concern for a long time. This funding will bring much needed improvements and quality of life to our residents.”

The request for the grant was made back in 2009, and as time lapsed and the condition of the roads continually got worse, safety was becoming a major issue. Concerned that the grant was not going to be approved, Mayor Williams and other village officials, contacted Senator Manar last spring for assistance in getting the grant approved.

“This money was going to be spent somewhere in the state. I’m just glad that, with the help of local officials, we were able to present a compelling case as to why Royal Lakes should be prioritized,” Manar said. “These projects play a very important role in improving our communities, and I believe Illinois is going to need another comprehensive infrastructure plan in the near future.”

The last time Illinois passed a comprehensive capital construction plan was in 2009. Sometimes referred to as “Illinois Jobs Now!,” the program has invested $31 billion in the state’s roads, bridges, schools, hospitals and other public buildings.
