Event part of Manar’s Capitol on Your Corner program

Manar GirardrSPRINGFIELD – State Senator Andy Manar (D–Bunker Hill) is partnering with local education and community leaders to host a discussion on education funding and other state issues on May 4 in Hillsboro as part of his “Capitol on Your Corner” program.

The event is from 9 to 11 am May 4 in the Hillsboro Junior High School Cafeteria at 909 Rountree Street in Hillsboro.

“Like too many other districts in our area, the Hillsboro School District was recently forced to navigate its way through a series of tough budget cuts, and parents are understandably concerned,” said Manar. “I invite everyone to join us on May 4th for a discussion on how our state funds public education and what needs to be done to improve the situation.”

Manar regularly hosts “Capitol on your Corner” events in communities across the 48th District to meet with constituents and answer questions about state government. But with mounting local concern over recent budget cuts to Hillsboro schools, Manar anticipates the discussion at the May 4 event will focus on public education funding in Illinois.

“As the parent of three children in a small, downstate school district, I understand Hillsboro parents’ frustrations with funding cuts,” said Manar. “Funding public education is one of the most important responsibilities of state government, and we can do much better.”

Manar is the chief sponsor of Senate Joint Resolution 32, which creates an Advisory Committee on Education Funding to conduct a comprehensive review of how K-12 education is funded in Illinois and make recommendations for improvement. SJR 32 is recognized as an important first step toward reforming education funding in Illinois.

Manar has launched an online petition for those who support reforming education funding in Illinois at www.SenatorAndyManar.com/FundingReform.
