ShrinersSPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Senate adopted a resolution Tuesday that names July 13, 2015, Ansar Shriners of Springfield Day to commemorate the group’s 100th anniversary.

State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) sponsored the resolution that was adopted Tuesday.

“The 100th anniversary of any group deserves commemoration, but the Ansar Shriners have distinguished themselves with this honor through their charity and good works in the community. Their devotion to providing medical care to children regardless of a family’s ability to pay is especially admirable and deserves our special recognition,” Manar said.

The term Ansar is taken from the Arabic word meaning those who give aid. The Ansar Shriners support 19 Shriners Hospitals for Children that provide juvenile orthopedic care and three pediatric burn units.

The Ansar Shriners jurisdiction stretches across central Illinois between the Indiana and Missouri borders and is headquartered in Springfield.
