Manar Wilsonville Grant PresentationRWILSONVILLE – The Village of Wilsonville will soon have new additions to the local park thanks to an AT&T community award given to the Wilsonville Community Outreach program on Tuesday. Village officials joined members of the Wilsonville Community Outreach program, Macoupin County officials and State Senator Andy Manar (D–Bunker Hill) to receive a $1,500 grant from AT&T for playground equipment. Manar’s office contacted AT&T to nominate the Wilsonville Community Outreach program for the grant.

“This was an all-hands-on-deck approach with local officials working with my office to secure the grant,” Manar said. “There are many state and private funds available for community-based projects, so I encourage any local official or community organization to reach out to my office if we can provide any assistance in helping to secure a grant.”

The Village of Wilsonville matched the AT&T grant, and several individuals have made private contributions.

Ryan Marucco Sen ManarrSPRINGFIELD – The Village of Stonington was recently awarded a $450,000 state grant to help cover the cost of moving and replacing a main water line that runs from the village wells to the water treatment facility. State Senator Andy Manar (D–Bunker Hill) worked with Village Trustee Ryan Marucco to secure the grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO)’s Community Development Assistance Program, which is responsible for investing in improvements to municipal water and sewer systems throughout the state.

After hearing of Manar’s Capitol on Your Corner events, Marucco contacted Manar about hosting an event in Stonington to discuss some issues the village needed help with.

“This past summer, Ryan asked me to host a Capitol on Your Corner event in Stonington to talk with officials and residents about local issues and projects the village was interested in starting,” Manar said. “One issue that was brought up during the event was the need to replace several water lines in Stonington.”

Manar Senate FloorrSPRINGFIELD – A new hunting license may soon be made available to youth hunters under a proposal sponsored by State Senator Andy Manar (D–Bunker Hill). The measure, Senate Bill 853, creates the Youth Hunting License, which allows youths (ages 16 and under) to hunt while accompanied by a licensed parent, grandparent or guardian.

“Many see hunting as a time to bond with family members while spending time outdoors,” Manar said. “This is a great opportunity for adult mentors to introduce and reinforce firearms safety and hunting ethics to junior hunters.”

Currently, the state requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1980 to present a valid Hunter Education Certificate of Competency before being issued a hunting license. Manar’s proposal is similar to junior hunting permits issued in neighboring states and would allow youths to obtain licenses without completing a hunter safety course.
