Event part of Manar’s Capitol on Your Corner program

DSC 3111rSPRINGFIELD – State Senator Andy Manar (D–Bunker Hill) is hosting a discussion on education funding and other state issues on November 14 in Livingston as part of his “Capitol on Your Corner” program.

The event is from 6 to 7:30 pm November 14 in the Livingston Senior Center at 601 Livingston Ave in Livingston.

Manar regularly hosts “Capitol on your Corner” events in communities across the 48th District to meet with constituents and answer questions about state government. But with Manar’s advisory committee currently reviewing school financing inequities, Manar anticipates the discussion at the November 14 event will focus on public education funding in Illinois.

Manar Senate FloorrSPRINGFIELD – A new hunting license may soon be made available to youth hunters under a proposal sponsored by State Senator Andy Manar (D–Bunker Hill). The measure, Senate Bill 853, creates the Youth Hunting License, which allows youths (ages 16 and under) to hunt while accompanied by a licensed parent, grandparent or guardian.

“Many see hunting as a time to bond with family members while spending time outdoors,” Manar said. “This is a great opportunity for adult mentors to introduce and reinforce firearms safety and hunting ethics to junior hunters.”

Currently, the state requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1980 to present a valid Hunter Education Certificate of Competency before being issued a hunting license. Manar’s proposal is similar to junior hunting permits issued in neighboring states and would allow youths to obtain licenses without completing a hunter safety course.

Manar Dr McFarlin AwardrHILLSBORO – Local dignitaries, state officials, friends and family attended a special reception at the Church Street Pub hosted by HSHS Medical Group to honor Dr. Roger McFarlin for his many years of dedicated service improving health care in Montgomery County.  Roger McFarlin, MD recently earned the 2013 Rural Physician of Excellence Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association (IRHA). The award honors physicians who exhibit a special commitment to rural health care.   “One of the biggest health care challenges across our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural settings. IRHA feels it is important to recognize physicians like Dr. McFarlin who have accepted this calling and gone above and beyond the call of duty to make an impact,” said Margaret Vaughn, IRHA Executive Director.   Dr. McFarlin, who practices at HSHS Medical Group Family Medicine in Hillsboro, has dedicated more than 40 years of service to his community.

“We appreciate that at a time when he could have chosen to retire, Dr. McFarlin decided to sell his practice to HSHS Medical Group for one reason. He wanted to be sure the citizens of Hillsboro and Montgomery County had access to primary care well into the future,” said Melinda Clark, Chief Executive Officer of HSHS Medical Group. “Dr. McFarlin is a compassionate physician who works tirelessly for his patients. We are proud he’s part of our family.”

Dr. McFarlin also received a Senate Congratulatory Certificate from Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill), and State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (R- Litchfield) introduced House Resolution 646 in the General Assembly commending Dr. McFarlin’s contributions to his community.
